TsAGI Takes Part in Academic Conference on Astronautics

13 February 2023

TsAGI (a part of NRC “Zhukovsky Institute”) participated in the 47th Academic Conference on Astronautics.

Ekaterina Rostovtseva, Head of Social Development and Corporate Culture at TsAGI, presented her academic report, ‘Metaculture as a professional industrial conscience-shaping tool, on the example of museum-and-exhibition activities of TsAGI Demonstration Center’. The report was presented at the Session for Astronautics and Culture.

The report analyses the factors influencing contemporary corporate culture in organizations, and considers methods and tools of its radical transformation through the activities of science popularization leisure platforms.

TsAGI Demonstration Center’s practice of personal art exhibitions showed how sociocultural rethinking of aerospace research-and-engineering activities stimulates creation of works of art, music and literature, on the one hand; and shapes the system of knowledge, values and traditions comprising industrial culture of competencies, on the other hand.

The report highlighted the Hall of Industrial Philately and Phaleristics, which was opened in 2022. Its core is comprised by Russia’s largest philately collection from Association of the Museums Cosmonautics Museums of Russia, Dmitry Yaroshevsky’s Creative Association “Constellation of Visions”, and by TsAGI’s own collection.

‘Thematic stamps, postcards, envelopes with special postal markings and maximum cards are the bright examples of mass metaculture. Professionally, such materials represent documented milestones of industrial history; artistically, they are autonomous artworks; and socially, they represent a tool expressing a human’s basic role in this or that professional community. It is this feeling of the basic role that often stimulates deeper interest necessary for further job-orienting and science popularization activities,’ said Ekaterina Rostovtseva.

The Academic Conference on Astronautics commemorating Academician Sergey Korolyov and other outstanding space research pioneers has been held since 1977. It had 22 sessions this year. The Conference focused on fundamental challenges of astronautics, its humanitarian aspects, historical research into astronautics and space technology, scientific heritage of first space explorers, etc. Apart from TsAGI, the Conference was attended by over 30 industrial enterprises and research-and-development institutes, such as RSC Energia, Lavochkin Association, Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics RAS, and such universities as Lomonosov MSU, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, MAI, etc.
