TsAGI Takes Part in International Conference on Aviation Simulator Engineering
12 July 2022
Representatives of TsAGI (a part of NRC “Zhukovsky Institute”) participated in the 14th International Conference, ‘Aviation Simulators and Training Centers of Russia — 2022’, which was held in Moscow.
Vladimir Shibayev, Director at TsAGI R&D RPAS Center, and his Deputy Dmitry Apollonov gave a joint report at the session on harmonization of regulatory documents of the Federal Agency for Air Transport related to production and usage of technical training aids in Russia. The report considered the problems of development and expertise of reconfigurable flight simulators capable of imitating specific features of different aircraft modifications in a single device. In particular, the report highlighted insufficient regulatory support in this area.
‘Using the experience related to the expertise of aircraft simulators, we proposed the methods to additionally verify the correctness of flight simulator reconfiguring. In particular, it includes test examinations before device reconfiguration and after its return to the original state. This will allow for eliminating any likely software errors. We are going to prepare an official description of this approach so that it could be included into Federal Aviation Regulations,’ said Vladimir Shibayev, Director at the TsAGI R&D RPAS Center.
The conference was also represented by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, as well as the companies involved in production of aircraft and flight simulators, development of flight simulator systems and the software, and by flight training centers.
Relevant issues were discussed at the round table, ‘Situation Analysis: Quantitative Park of Foreign Flight Simulators Used at Russian Flight Training Centers’, and during thematic sessions. The discussions were focused on import substitution related to simulator engineering, modern VR-based and AR-based crew training methods, 3D‑prototyping design technologies for all types of simulators, multi-channel rendering systems for virtual environment, etc.
‘Aviation Simulators and Training Centers of Russia — 2022’ is an important interdisciplinary conference aimed at implementing world’s cutting-edge technologies in all areas of domestic simulator engineering. Active support is provided to the enterprises occupied in transport industry, aircraft industry, military industry, medical industry and special-purpose industry, by creating the mechanisms which enhance personnel training systems and the legal basis for simulator certification. The event is held in business communication format and unites managers, experts, administration and specialists from various industries.
