TsAGI at the “Gidroaviasalon 2012” Exhibition

TsAGI took part in the IX International Exhibition “Gidroaviasalon-2012” held September
The Central Aero-Hydrodynamic Institute demonstrated a model of the fan-type VTOL unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) designed for the study of aerodynamics and flight dynamics and testing of stabilization and control systems during flight testing, as well as a model of the amphibian aircraft with the air-cushion landing system (ACLS) “Dingo” developed with scientific support of TsAGI. The amphibian is designed to transport eight passengers or 750 kg of cargo in regions with weak airfield infrastructure with minimum dependence on weather conditions.
In addition, the Institute presented the test bench intended for testing the air-cushion landing system. Aircraft with this landing system (for example, An-14 and “Dingo”) have operational restrictions related to speed and runway parameters. TsAGI proposed and patented a new scheme of the air-cushion landing system which allows adjusting the longitudinal and lateral aspects of the air cushion during ground roll and run of the aircraft.
The TsAGI delegation at “Gidroaviasalon 2012” was headed by its Director General Boris Aleshin. Opening the Plenary Session of the IX Scientific Hydroaviation Conference, where the Institute has traditionally played the leading role in its organizing and realization, he said: “Europe and the United States see mobility of the population as a top priority. Therefore we have the task of creating the infrastructure, ensuring dense coverage with hub airports and building the whole system on short ‘arms’ used by small planes. Hydroaviation infrastructure is more efficient in economic terms than land-based airfields”.
