MAKS-2021, Second Day Review: TsAGI’s Key Events

Meeting EU and French Ambassadors to Russia, discussing prospects of supersonic aviation, holding a round table on science cities’ development, and presenting new test technologies—these were the key points of scientific-and-business program by TsAGI (a part of NRC “Zhukovsky Institute”) at MAKS-2021, the 15th International Aviation and Space Salon.
The day was marked with visit by Markus Ederer, EU Ambassador, and by Pierre Lévy, French Ambassador, to the joint exposition by the NRC organizations, which showed TsAGI developments. Having seen the exposition, the guests met with NRC and TsAGI administration; they discussed current areas of partnership in aeronautics, and cooperation prospects under Horizon Europe, EU’s 9th framework program for research and innovations.
Before the discussion, the participants had visited an exhibition by French aerospace companies; during than visit, TsAGI administration discussed the possibilities of future research with Director General of French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC). The discussion was attended by Pierre Lévy, French Ambassador. Fruitful negotiations were held with partners from из Airbus, SAFRAN, Dassault systems and ESI Group.
MAKS-2021 served as a platform for broad discussion on future supersonic aviation. The discussion was held at conference organized by TsAGI, which coordinates the WCRC “Supersonic” consortium. Welcoming speeches were delivered by Denis Sekirinsky (Deputy Chief of the Presidential Directorate for Science and Education Policy), and by Pavel Forsh (Director of Department for National Research and R&T Policy, Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation). The event allowed analyzing the main prospects of supersonic aviation development and the Consortium’s scientific potential for this challenge. The conference was attended by members of the WCRC’s International Supervisory Board and the Scientific Board. Elaborating milestones for the WCRC long-term development strategy was marked as important by Co-Chairmen of the International Supervisory Board: by B. Aleshin (Chief Scientist, NRC “Zhukovsky Institute”; Professor, Academician of the RAS), and by V. Sadovnichy (Head of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Academician of the RAS).
Importantly, TsAGI and Novikombank signed a financial agreement. The funds would be used to implement tasks of the WCRC ‘Supersonic’.
Supersonic aviation developments, which were shown at NRC’s joint exhibition, drew attention of many visitors that day. The exhibition was visited by Bashkortostan government delegation headed by Radiy Khabirov, Head of the Republic. It also drew attention of Valery Fadeev, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation; Oleg Ryazantsev, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation; Pavel Forsh, Director of Department for National Research and R&T Policy, Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation. TsAGI’s projects were also covered by a number of mass media.
Another highlight of the day was ‘Moscow Region: Creating research and innovative infrastructure in science cities’, a round table organized by TsAGI. Held at MAKS-2021 Congress Center, the round table was attended by representatives of Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Government of Moscow Region, Zhukovsky municipal administration, and Moscow regional innovative business enterprises. At this event, TsAGI reported on successful experience of creating high-tech innovative infrastructure, such as TsAGITech. The discussion focused on supporting the infrastructures by federal, regional and municipal authorities. Furthermore, the participants discussed effective forms of interaction and cooperation between innovative businesses, city-forming scientific and educational organizations, and municipalities of science cities. Also, the WCRC “Supersonic” project was presented at the round table as a world-class scientific infrastructure currently established in Zhukovsky.
Traditionally, TsAGI participated in FUTURE HUB, a special section of MAKS-2021 program, devoted to academic science and aeronautical technical creativity of the youth. TsAGI presented achievements by its Research-and-Manufacturing Complex related to applying new technologies in tests. The visitors could personally assess the capabilities of an integrated digital complex which controls designing, manufacturing and testing of aerodynamic models. They could also see an interactive demonstrator of technologies for remote wind tunnel tests.
