TsAGI Holds Open Day for Schoolkids and Young Scientists

26 April 2021

TsAGI (a part of NRC “Zhukovsky Institute”) held an Open Day for schoolchildren and students. The career-guidance event was held on April 17 within ‘Week without Turnstyle’, Russia’s nationwide campaign organized by Russian Engineering Union and the League To Support Defense Industry.

Despite complicated epidemiologic situation, TsAGI was visited by over 500 youngsters, including schoolchildren from Zhukovsky City and Ramensky District, students from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Aviation Technical School named after V.A. Kazakov, and from Ramenskoye College.

The tour started in the TsAGI Demonstration Center where the youngsters were told about TsAGI’s history and outstanding aviation scientists. They also saw such unique exhibits as mocked-up test facilities, aircraft wind tunnel models, archive photos, etc.

Most memorably, the program included a visit to TsAGI test facilities. Providing the youngsters with basic knowledge on TsAGI key competences, the scientists and engineers showed them the fatigue strength laboratory; T-101, Europe’s largest subsonic wind-tunnel; and flight simulators.

‘Career guidance activities comprise a part-and-parcel of personnel training system in aerospace industry. Traditionally, TsAGI supports career-guidance events for the youth, and is always ready to open its doors for the young interested in science and technology,’ said Ekaterina Rostovtseva, Head of Social Development and Corporate Culture.

‘Week without Turnstyle’ is Russia’s nationwide annual campaign held on the 3rd week in April and October. The campaign aims at raising the youth’s interest towards engineering, at forming early career-guidance system, and at increasing talent capacity of engineering industry. The campaign is organized by top state enterprises and engineering holdings. It was held from 12th April till 18th April this year.
