The Russian delegation completes the business program at Aerodays 2019-2020

The 8th European Conference on aviation Aerodays 2019-2020 took place in Bucharest (Romania) in late May 2019. The delegation of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute” held a number of meetings with leaders and experts of the EU research programmes.

The first in this series was a meeting of representatives of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute” with Clara de la Torre, Director for Transport at the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation at the European Commission. Among the main topics of the meeting there was the implementation of the research projects with the participation of Russia, under the auspices of the 8th EU framework programme “Horizon 2020” and the possibility of holding a meeting of the Russia-EU working group on aviation research within the framework of the Paris Air Show 2019 which will be held from 17 to 23 June in France.

Moreover, there were conducted negotiations with Axel Krein, Executive Director of Clean Sky 2. The parties discussed prospects for scientific cooperation in the framework of the future Clean Sky 3 program. To this purpose, it was proposed to hold a Russian-European workshop to study the topics of mutual interest.

The participants of the ICARe seminar (International Cooperation in Aviation Research) were focused on the priorities of cooperation for the period of duration of the 9th EU framework programme “Horizon Europe” (2021-2027). The seminar was headed by Dr. Sebastiano Fumero, Head of the Unit “Aviation” of the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission.

The delegation of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute” highly appreciated the outcomes of negotiations. “We managed not only to highlight the contribution of Russian scientists in European research projects, but also to draw the attention of partners and international experts to prospective topics of interest for further cooperation,” said Andrey Dutov, Director General of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute.” “In addition, the mere fact of the participation of the Russian aviation industry’s representatives in European events of such a rank underlines our special collaborating status and gives an opportunity to actively participate in shaping the global scientific agenda,” added the Deputy Director General in the coordination of international cooperation and interaction with international organizations of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute” and Academician of the Russian Academy of Science Sergey Chernyshev.

European Aeronautics Days Aerodays has been a milestone event in the field of aeronautical research and innovations in Europe for the last three decades. It has been regularly hold since 1991 and reflects the priorities and strategies of the EU Framework Programmes.

The 8th Conference “Aerodays 2019-2020” is devoted to the developments in aeronautics and air transport, received during the 8th EU framework programme “Horizon 2020” — the largest research and innovation program to date.
