High-speed aircraft aerodynamics, swept wing introduction, studies of three dimension boundary layer in condensed gas — here are the key areas of aeronautical science which were developed by an outstanding mechanician, Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of technical sciences, Professor Vladimir V. Struminsky.
The Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute”) produced a book devoted to the life and scientific activities of Vladimir Struminsky. This is one of the publications devoted to the centenary of the Institute and its staff who have made a significant contribution to the development of domestic aviation.
The book opens with materials about the family, childhood and student years of the future scientist. On the issue’s pages Struminsky’s closest colleagues recollect his main period of creative activity in TsAGI (from 1941 through 1966) and his main scientific developments, which entered the Golden Fund of the Achievements of TsAGI and of the country as a whole. Members of the Khristianovich Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (Siberian branch of Russian Academy of Sciences) narrate about the contribution of Vladimir Struminsky to the development of a new aerodynamic base in Novosibirsk
