TsAGI team hit the podium in the Russian Cup in aeromodelling in Nalchik

19 April 2019

Specialists of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute”) participated in two stages of the Russian Cup in aeromodelling, which were also the World Cup stages. The competitions were held in Nalchik (Kabardino-Balkaria) in the beginning of April.

In the first stage, Chief of TsAGI’s Department of aerodynamics and aircraft missiles Alexander Kornushenko won third place in the individual competition in the glider models class. In the rubber-motored models class the bronze went to the member of TsAGI’s research-and-production complex Alexey Burdov. It’s a good result for the season beginning, when there is adaptation and reconfiguration for flights after “hibernation”.

The second part of the competition was also marked by our athletes’ success. Alexander Kornushenko became the winner in the gliders models class. According to the results of the two competitions he was handed the challenge cup named by the head coach of the USSR in aeromodelling Viktor Fedorovich Yeskov. “This is the best result of my entire career,” said Alexander Kornushenko. “I think I won because my models had many flying hours and a high technical perfection. But I still keep in mind a piece of sport luck. All these factors combined have helped to achieve success.”

The third place of the second stage in the rubber-motored models class got the young specialist of TsAGI’s Research and Development Center Albert Bulatov. Following the team scoring, the Moscow region combined team won the first place. The members of the team were the Head of the Department of TsAGI Research and Development Center Yury Evdokimov and Albert Bulatov, as well as athletes in the class of timer models: Larissa Savukhina and the junior Ilya Trapeznikov.

These competitions were the qualifying rounds for the national team of Russia. Currently, the advanced team members include Yuri Evdokimov and Albert Bulatov. There are still three competitions before the final formation of the Russian national team to participate in the World Cup in the United States in autumn. Furthermore, in the framework of the competitions ther has been completed the qualifying stage for the formation of the country’s junior national team.

Adult athletes pass their knowledge to the youth. Under the leadership of the head coach of the national junior aeromodelling team Alexandr Kornushenko there has been developed a special technique for the members to achieve good results. It confirms, for example, the winning of the Russian team at the World Junior Championships in Bulgaria
