TsAGI participates in the International Conference on Applied Aerodynamics

9 April 2019

Specialists of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute”) participated in the 54-th International Conference on Applied Aerodynamics. It took place in Paris (France) in the beginning of April.

Evgeny Pigusov, TsAGI young scientist reflected in his report experimental results of a transport short take-off and landing aircraft with power-on. He examined the ground effect on the aerodynamics of the ultrahigh-bypass twin-engine aircraft, including the single engine failure case. His work is aimed at the flight safety improvement at takeoff and landing modes and gains ground with regard to the small number of experimental research in this field.

Kseniya Abramova, junior research scientist of the Institute devoted her report to the cruising flight aerodynamics. In her scientific presentation the specialist talked about application of an active flow control system which will increase the lift, improve aerodynamic performance and affect such a dangerous phenomenon as buffeting.

The 3AF International Conference on Applied Aerodynamics is organized each year by the French Aeronautics and Aerospace Society (3AF). The topics discussed this year were focused on complex flow behavior at off-design conditions, including conditions on the edge of the flight envelope, as well as take-off and landing conditions. Particular attention was paid to hazards: icing, buffeting, spin, etc. More than 60 specialists and scientists from Europe and Asia participated in the event.
