TsAGI specialists design a large-scale model of the IL-276

Specialists of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute”) completed the design of large-scale models of the prospective military transport aircraft IL-276. Different options of high lift devices as well as wing-mounted controls and fins will be tested on it.
The feature of the designed construction is the ability to perform experiments in three different configurations. The first option is the fully equipped model with all the elements (fuselage, mechanized wing with engines, empennage). The second configuration is the isolated fuselage, without wings and empennage. The third version is the full aircraft configuration with two kinds of empennage; it has a universal node to fix them alternately.
Another difference is the tail-mounted opening hatch. Airdrop simulation through it will give the information about the aircraft’s aerodynamic characteristics at the airdrop mission. Another research is introduced as well: the open hatch with a ramp and shutters, which can be set in different positions, and its influence on the aerodynamics.
The construction has a rigid and strong structure for high payload. It is ensured by the use of high-strength structural materials.
The Ilyushin lL-276 is a project of a two engine medium-lift military transport aircraft with a payload up to 20 tons at a range of 2 000 km. Its flying speed is 800 km/h.
