TsAGI participates in the VII All-Russian Conference "Computational Experiment in Aeroacoustics”
2 October 2018
Specialists of the of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) made presentations at the VII all-Russian Conference “Computational Experiment in Aeroacoustics” in Svetlogorsk (Kaliningrad region).
TsAGI scientists presented scientific reports on various subjects, from eddy-resolving method for eddy simulation to flow control in numerical and real experiments.
The report of the young specialist Igor Bosnjakov was devoted to the study of the Galerkin method, which allows achieving high accuracy of calculated results with relatively lower computational cost. The method has been successfully applied, inter alia, in the study of the Vortex traces for aircraft noise in the nozzles of jets engines. The head of TsAGI’s Department of aerodynamics and aircraft missiles Andrey Volkov spoke about the development of test cases based on tasks of jet outflow from dual bell nozzles. This is a join development of TsAGI and the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics by S.A. Khristianovich (ITAM) of RAS, Siberian Branch. In this work the experimental results, gained by ITAM are compared with calculations by computer programs of TsAGI and the Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics.
The Fifth International workshop “Computational Experiment in Aeroacoustics” was arranged in the framework of the Conference. The head of TsAGI’s Department of aeroacoustics and ecology aircraft Victor Kopjev participated in the workshop among other attendants. His report was devoted to the possibility of active control of instability waves in nonexcited turbulent jets. “The development of methods for noise reduction should be based on an understanding of the natural mechanisms of its generation,” said Victor Kopjev. “Currently, such understanding is based on solving simplified model problems. In the future, we hope that the development of computational methods will help to complement the existing noise models.”
The All-Russian Conference “Computational Experiment in Aeroacoustics” has been held every two years since 2006. This year the aim of the event was to discuss modern approaches to numerical modelling of aircraft noise and the prospects of their application to solve practical tasks in aeroacoustics. Attending were delegations from TsIAM, RSC Energia, the Acoustic Institute by Academician N.N. Andreev and other enterprises.
