Kirill Sypalo is appointed TsAGI Director General

Kirill Sypalo is appointed Director General of Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute Federal State Unitary Enterprise (TsAGI FSUE) pending the appointment of TsAGI Director through a competitive process in accordance with the established procedure; an administrative order thereof was issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.

Kirill Sypalo was born in 1970. He graduated from the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI) with a degree in flight dynamics and motion control of rockets and spacecraft. He advanced in his career at MAI from Assistant to Professor. In 2009-2012 he occupied the position of Vice-Dean at Robotic and Intelligent Systems faculty. In 2011 he was given the academic rank of Associate Professor. In 2012 he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in engineering with a thesis dedicated to control and navigation systems of high-speed spacecraft.

Previously he worked as Chief of TsAGI Perspective Development Complex in conjunction with working activities in MAI. In 2015, he was appointed the First Deputy Director General of the Zhukovsky Institute National Research Center. In 2016 Kirill Sypalo was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the Office of Energy, Engineering, Mechanics and Control Processes.

Kirill Sypalo’s professional interests include analysis and information processing in complex technical systems; dynamics, ballistics, navigation and aerospace control apparatus; aerodynamics and mechanics.

He is the author of over 50 scientific publications, including 14 journal articles from the list of the Higher Attestation Commission, 3 monographs, theses and reports for Russian and international conferences.

The employment contract with Prof. Sergey Chernyshev, the Russian Academy of Sciences academician and previous TsAGI General Director has been expired. Prof. Sergey Chernyshev will continue his work at the institute as Chief Scientific Officer TsAGI. His responsibility will include but not be limited by strategy, research and technology development including international scientific collaboration.
