TsAGI holds strength tests on the Il-112 primary structure members
19 July 2018
The Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) held static tests of structurally similar wing panels models and fuselage models of the new generation transport aircraft IL-112.
The objects of the experiments are to isolate efforts on compression and move. Specialists put loads to each sample, gradually increasing the loads to their operational value, then to design value and eventually bring the panels to destruction.
“After analyzing the obtained experimental data, we will be able to determine the nature of the samples’ deformation under loading, the start of local and general instability, and load-carrying capability, ” said Michael Limonov, Deputy Director of TsAGI Department of Static and Thermal strength.
Based on the results of the experiments scientists will receive the base criteria for forming TsAGI’s conclusions on the aircraft construction’s statistical strength.
The Il-112 is a new generation light transport aircraft. It is capable to carry a load of up to 5 tons over a distance of up to 1000 km. The aircraft is expected to replace the transport aircraft An-24 and An-26. The IL-112 first flight is planned for the end of 2018.
