TsAGI holds conference devoted to measuring equipment and metrology for aircraft research

What are the methods required to improve measurement accuracy of aerodynamical experiment, what affects sensor reading and how state-of-the-art technologies can help automatize aircraft research — these and other topics were discussed at the third Industry Research and Engineering Conference devoted to measuring equipment and metrology for aircraft research, KIMILA-2018. This event arranged by the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute and associated with the Institute’s centenary was held at TsAGI in early June.

In the course of the two-day conference participants discussed various topical issues of the industry such as the application of advanced software complexes, thermography, acoustics techniques, thermal non-destructive inspection, strain-gauge-type measuring systems, requirements to manufacturing accuracy for models used in wind-tunnel experiments, development of non-contact measurement methods, etc.

Over 60 reports were presented to the audience. The speakers were TsAGI’s specialists, as well as representatives from about 20 leading enterprises, research centers and higher institutions, among them being TSNIIMASH, FSUE P. I. Baranov Central Institute of Aviation Motors (CIAM), Institute for Problems in Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences Khristianovich Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Emanuel N. M. Institute for Biochemical Physics of Russian Academy of Sciences, FSUE SibNIA named after S. A. Chaplygin, and FSUE State Research Institute of Aviation Systems, The All-Russian Research Institute for Optical and Physical Measurements Federal State Unitary Enterprise, Lomonosov Moscow State University, TPU, NGASU, and enterprises manufacturing measuring means and instruments: Irtis LLC, Driver LLC, Spetseltekh LLC, etc.

“This year, KIMILA is a conference of particular significance as it has become an important stage of the ‘marathon’ of scientific and technical events dedicated to celebrating the TsAGI’s 100th anniversary,” explained TsAGI Director General and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergei Chernyshev. “The ideas, discussions and opinions that were exchanged between key specialists of the industry form the basis of further progress. Our goal is to support this progress and put it in practise.”
