TsAGI participates in the international project of 9th Framework programme

15 May 2018

The leadership of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI) took part in the first seminal “Europe-Russia Cooperation in the domain of R&T for Aviation.” The event took place in the end of April in Berlin in the framework of ILA 2018.

The participants reviewed the concept of the 9th EU Framework programme for 2021-2027. They discussed the new International Cooperation in Aviation Research project — ICARe. It is aimed at the formation of priority aeronautical topics for scientific and technological cooperation between the EU and partner countries, the key of which is Russia. The participants identified research areas of mutual interest for both Russian and European partners: hybrid metal-composite airframes, noise control research, flight safety in special conditions, high-speed civilian aircraft, improvement of onboard equipment and air traffic control.

“Projects like ICARe, give a new impulse to international cooperation,” said TsAGI Director General and Academician Sergey Chernyshev. “Our invitation to participate in the project underlines the EU readiness to expand and strengthen cooperation with their Russian counterparts. We have become a significant strategic partner for the EU in aeronautics, starting from the 6th EU Framework programme, and now we are keeping our leadership. The agreements are a good foundation for the further development of joint scientific research in the field of civil aviation.”

The seminar was organized by the German Aerospace Center DLR with the participation and support of the European Commission and with the assistance of the National contact point “Aeronautics,” “TsAGI”. The event was attended by representatives of leading aviation research and industrial organizations of Russia and Europe, as well as representatives of the European Commission, relevant ministries and departments.
