23 March 2018
A delegation of the Embassy of France in Russia, headed by the Ambassador of France in Russia Sylvie Bermann, visited the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute”) in the end of March.
The visit’s purpose was to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of aviation research and to extend relations with the French scientific community. Both sides discussed the prospects of scientific cooperation between TsAGI and French companies and identified the most effective ways of interaction.
The meeting’s participants noted that TsAGI has long-term scientific ties with France in the field of aeronautics. The two cooperate within the EU framework innovation and research programmes, and also bilateral projects. TsAGI Director General and Academician Sergey Chernyshev described the Institute’s scientific capabilities and a wide spectrum of interaction for the scientists of the two countries.
“Our Institute has cooperated with French colleagues for more than 50 years, and we appreciate and will strengthen these ties,” said Sergey Chernyshev. “TsAGI’s key partners are leading research organizations and air entities, such as ONERA, Airbus, Dassault Aviation, CNES, Safran, and Thales. The French delegation’s visit confirms TsAGI’s significance at the international level.”
After the talks, the Ambassador visited the TsAGI Museum and experimental facilities: the static strength test hall, Europe’s largest subsonic wind tunnel, and the flight simulator with a fully articulating pilot cabin.
TsAGI has long-standing and strong cooperation ties with the French national aerospace research center ONERA, the Aerospace Industry Association GIFAS, Safran, Airbus, Dassault Aviation, and the National Centre of Space Studies (CNES). The history of this collaboration consists of several dozen research projects in aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, flight dynamics, flight safety, etc. The annual scientific and technical TSAGI-ONERA seminar, established in 2002 on the bilateral initiative of the Heads of the two research centers in 2016 was included in the list of events celebrating the 50 years of cooperation between Russia and France in the field of science and technology.
