TsAGI visits DLR Aerospace Center (Germany)

20 February 2018

In February a TsAGI delegation headed by Director General and Academician of the RAS Sergey Chernyshev, with support from the National Research Center “Zhukovsky Institute” visited the DLR Aerospace Center (Germany). The aim of the visit was to discuss prospects for cooperation on issues relevant to both organizations, including layout research for supersonic passenger aircraft, more electric aircraft, etc. The negotiations took place in Hamburg at the Center of applied aviation studies (ZAL), where the DLR Institute of systems architecture in aeronautics is located. This is a new site of the German Centre; its work emphasizes simulation in aeronautics from the transport system to the production of sub-components. The meeting was attended by colleagues from the Institute of aviation systems of DLR, which studies the design, analysis and evaluation of new concepts of air transport and flight safety.

The key takeaway of the discussion was the review of common initiatives both in the framework of the European Union programs and bilateral work. The parties agreed to further aeronautics cooperation development. It is planned that the discussion will continue in April at the site of the International Aviation and Space Salon ILA (Berlin, Germany).

Russian and German centers are connected by a long-term effective partnership and participation in international projects — HEXAFLY-INT, TILDA, AGILE, AFLoNext, RUMBLE, etc. In addition, they regularly hold a joint seminar for young scientists and specialists. TsAGI and DLR operate a framework agreement, the purpose of which is to develop mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of scientific research.
