TsAGI Honors Winners of Best Research Scientific Work

Winners were honored in the contest for the best research scientific work performed. Awards were made in the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute (TsAGI, a member of the National Research Center “Institute named after N.E.Zhukovsky”) on September 19, 2017.
Projects in three thematic areas took part in the contest: fundamental and exploratory theoretical and experimental research in the field of aerodynamics, dynamics and strength; research on aerodynamics, dynamics, strength and the prospects for the development of aircraft, and; scientific research works in the field of experimental equipment, measuring, control and computing systems and methodologies of experiment. Three scientific teams won in each category, their works earned first, second and third degree awards.
“The results of the contest for 2016 showed the active participation of all complexes of the Institute,” said Sergey Lyapunov, head of the Aircraft Flight Aerodynamics and Dynamics Complex. “I would like to note the high level of projects of our Strength Complex — three works of the specialists of the Complex awarded prizes. The Commission also praised the Institute for research in the field of refining the algorithms of the MC-21 integrated control system — a very relevant topics now.”
The TsAGI contest for the best research scientific work began in 1967. Its main purpose (according to the order of the Director of the Institute G.P.Svischev) was “to encourage the development of research, which give a significant insight into the nature of the most important processes which expose or explain a qualitatively new phenomena, discovering theoretical or experimental ways of enhancing the effectiveness of aircraft.” The main requirement for the scientific work was its originality. The scientific work was not to repeat prior known work. Aerodynamics, aerohydrodynamics, dynamics and strength were the main areas of theoretical and experimental research.
