TsAGI: site for the video production of the program “Searchers”

20 April 2017

In the late April, the video production of the historical scientific-popular program “Searchers” devoted to the inventor A.F. Mozhaisky and his contribution to the development of engineering and aviation took place in the Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after professor N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI, part of the National Research Center “Institute named after professor N.E. Zhukovsky).

The television company “Tsivilizatsiya” (Civilization) approached TsAGI about the program creation. The shooting took place in the Institute’s museum, where the aircraft model designed by A.F. Mozhaisky in the last quarter of the XIX century is kept. Specialists from TsAGI conducted research of the aircraft performance characteristics in 1979–1981. Direct participants of scientific work — the Institute scientists — told journalists about the unique aircraft and its creator, and shared facts connected with the flying machine testing by TsAGI.

The program “Searchers” dedicated to A.F. Mozhaisky will be aired on the channel “Kultura” (Culture) in May this year.

The Mozhaisky aircraft is the first one in Russia and one of the great innovations in the world of aircraft intended for human ascent. Documentary records confirming the testing procedures were not preserved. There is information that the plane crashed when trying to take off. Some sources mention that the vehicle broke away from the ground for a short time.
