TsAGI takes part in the discussion of icing
18 April 2017
Representatives of the Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after professor N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI, part of the National Research Center “Institute named after professor N.E. Zhukovsky”) took part in the final workshop on the STORM project. The meeting’s subject was the new aviation technologies to combat icing. The event was held in Brussels.
Evgeny Andreev, TsAGI’s Director for Cooperation with European Countries, discussed ways of interaction with foreign colleagues in research on icing matters. He stated that: “TsAGI has a solid experience in this field. Participation in the workshop gave us the understanding into what studies on the icing subject we are able to join forces with partners from other countries. We have identified common ground for joint projects, in which the Institute’s long-term achievements may prove indispensable.”
TsAGI was invited to participate in a similarly-named workshop as the National Contact Point “Aeronautics,” which operates on the basis of the Institute. In addition, the Institute has a wide range of opportunities to conduct complex studies. A new seasonal air cooling pipe was put into service in TsAGI late last year. The unit allows the study of the simulated icing processes on lifting surfaces and bearing members of an aircraft, icing influence on aerodynamic characteristics of an aircraft and their control methods, and characteristics of instruments and sensors in icing conditions, etc.
STORM (Systems and simulation Techniques Of Ice Release on propulsive systeMs) project of the 7th Framework Program of European Union is dedicated to deicing systems and modeling technology in engine units. The work is three-years long and joins 14 partners from seven European countries.
