Dmitry Rogozin, Vice Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, held a workshop on the MC-21 program in TsAGI

On 20 December, Dmitry Rogozin, the Vice Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, held a workshop devoted to the work under the MC-21 passenger aircraft design program, in the Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI, part of the National Research Center „Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky”).

The workshop was attended by the managers of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, National Research Center „Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky,” TsAGI, PJSC UAC, Irkut Corporation PJSC, and representatives of the Russia’s leading aircraft companies and organizations.

The reports on the work under the MC-21 program were delivered to Dmitry Rogozin. Via direct conferencing line, the Vice Chairman of the Government received the information on preparation for the flight testing of the first МС-21-300 from the Irkutsk Aircraft Plant, an affiliate of Irkut Corporation PJSC.

Participants of the workshop inspected the static testing space where the work under the MC-21 program are carried out.

Most objectives in justifying the static strength and lifetime of the MC-21 aircraft are being solved by TsAGI together with the Irkut Corporation. A distinguishing feature of the new airliner is the wide application of polymer composites in the airframe structure. This solution offers aircraft performance advantages to the MC-21 aircraft as compared to similar aircraft. At the same time, introduction of composites demanded an exceptional amount of various strength tests.

Testing of composite fin and tailplane boxes, nose section of the body, landing gears, air brakes, rudders and elevators, and some other equipment has been finished.

At present, special attention is given to isolated tests of an innovation high-aspect-ratio wing, the box and high lift devices of which are made of composites.

Assembly of the МС-21-300-0002 aircraft specially designed for strength testing is currently in their final stages at TsAGI.

Dmitry Rogozin emphasized that the МС-21 should outdo its competitors both in terms of fuel efficiency and price. „To encounter fewer problems in aircraft operation, maximum efforts must be made to detect all the problems and risks in the course of testing,” the Vice Chairman of the Russian Government remarked.
