TsAGI participated in the Franco-Russian Forum

19 December 2016

In early December representatives of the Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky (TsAGI, part of the National Research Center “Institute named after N.E. Zhukovsky”) took part in the 2nd Franco-Russian Forum of aerospace education and science in Toulouse (France).

The event was part of the celebration program devoted to the 50th anniversary of the scientific and technological cooperation between France and Russia. A good example of advantageous cooperation between the countries is the one between TsAGI and ONERA in the field of aeronautics. In particular, the research within the framework of international programs and bilateral projects is being conducted. At present, TsAGI and ONERA are concentrated on nonlinear simulation of flight mechanics and innovative aircraft configurations.

The report made jointly by the Russian and French centers presented the current directions of the cooperation. In addition to the research activity, they included organization of the TsAGI-ONERA international annual research workshop that enables the scientists to share their achievements and to discuss new aeronautics initiatives and projects. Special attention to the Russian and French centers is paid to development and promote research activities among their young professionals, for which purpose the Denis Maugars Award has been established.

During the Forum, TsAGI held some meetings with representatives of Russian higher educational institutions who wanted to join the European programs. At the advisory meetings the participation procedure and terms, as well as possible financing sources were clarified. Also, the business program of the Russian aeronautics center included the negotiations on the RUMBLE project, researching threshold levels and estimation rules of the sonic boom level from a supersonic passenger aircraft.

The Forum’s goal is to develop the scientific and innovative activity of the aerospace universities in France and Russia, to enhance the academic mobility level, and to establish and strengthen the research and eduction cooperation between the two countries. In addition, this event is to attract attention to issues of personnel advanced training in the aerospace industry and to enable discussion of international interaction prospects.
