TsAGI Takes Part in Aerospace Science Week at MAI
14 December 2022
Kirill Sypalo, Director General of TsAGI (a part of NRC “Zhukovsky Institute”)
and Corresponding Member of the RAS, and TsAGI scientists participated in the 8th International Aerospace Science Week. The event was held at MAI from November 21 to 25.
Aerospace Science Week is a platform uniting administration of top aerospace industrial and related corporations, specialists from the relevant ministries, scientists and engineers to discuss the challenges and prospects in high technologies.
Aerospace Science Week was opened with a plenary session with participation of Mikhail Pogosyan, Rector of MAI and Academician of the RAS; Kirill Sypalo, Director General of TsAGI and Corresponding Member of the RAS; Yuriy Makarov, Director of Strategy Planning Department at
ROSCOSMOS; Yuri Vizilter, Head for AI and Synthetic Vision at GosNIIAS; and Vladimir Markin, Head for Unmanned Rotorcraft at Mil&Kamov.
According to Mikhail Pogosyan, the contemporary technological tasks require closer involvement of research communities, and it is very important to create new ecosystem between industry, services and universities. In turn, Kirill Sypalo spoke on contemporary challenges of aviation science. He said that the world’s air transport system has heavy traffic, so cutting-edge aircraft need to comply with international regulations on noise, pollutants, safety, etc.
‘Technological independence cannot be achieved without new technological solutions. And today, TsAGI scientists are working on a number of really innovative and, to some extent, potentially futuristic aviation know-how—such as next-generation flying-wing high-capacity long-range aircraft, green open-rotor aircraft, engine-over-wing and engine-under-wing design technologies for noise reduction, etc. An ultimate contemporary challenge, however, is the creation of supersonic transport that would unite breakthrough technologies throughout the whole aviation science,’ said Kirill Sypalo.
The 21st International Conference on Aeronautics and Space was held within Aerospace Science Week. It focused on widening the ways of scientific interaction, outlining new research-and-technology results in aeronautics and space, and determining the growth points and breakthrough digital technologies of industrial development.
Scientists from TsAGI Aeroacoustics R&D Center made their reports at the sections of the conference: Cand. Sc. Boris Zamtfort, Chief Researcher; Cand. Sc. Roman Akinshin, Junior Researcher; and Vitaly Bashkatov, Engineer and MIPT Postgraduate. The reports dealt with the dependence between engine main noise sources and bypass ratio, numerical modeling of rotorcraft propeller impact noise, and flyover noise measurement with ground microphones, correspondingly.
Aerospace Science Week also included such events as Panel discussion on training new-generation engineers, the Conference on applied superconductivity and cryogenics in energy systems; the latter had a number of sections and a seminar attended by Heads of Russian Science Foundation. The Week ended with final of research-and-technology competition, ‘The Youth and the Future of Aviation and Astronautics’.
